'Mastering Project Management: Essential Soft Skills for Leading Teams to Success'

Biyat Energy & Environment Ltd's Founder and Environmental Project Manager Luay Zayed shares some thoughts on '𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬'.

"For me there are three main elements which include: -

➊ 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
Working in a professional setting can really help you develop essential skills like 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 and 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. It's really important that everyone I bring onboard understands their roles, responsibilities, and the project goals. Effective communication and teamwork can help to prevent misunderstanding, promote a sense of ownership and instill commitment - ultimately keeping the project on track.
No matter how well you plan things, you will encounter challenges - embrace them head-one! 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 quickly, 𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, and 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 the most effective one.

➋ 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤
Be ready to regularly reflect on you and your team's performance as a means to identify your strengths and areas for improvement. I.e. 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 for growth here. Also, 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 from clients, peers, mentors, etc. in order to refine your skills further and improve future project management practices. Embrace a mindset of 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, which can lead to better decision-making and more effective project management over time.

➌ 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩
Don't shy away from leadership roles in projects and 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐬 so to speak. Learn to evaluate options whilst considering their potential impact on the project - 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 that align with the project goals! Conflicts will definitely arise either within the team or with external stakeholders - thus 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 that satisfy all parties and keep the project moving forward are a must!
