'Procrastination, Decision Making and Failure' - Some thoughts from our founder, Luay Zayed
Biyat Energy & Environment Ltd's founder and Environmental Project Manager Luay Zayed shares some thoughts on 'Procrastination, Decision Making and Failure'.
"One of the best philosophies I read recently was 'Eat the Frog first' - meaning to start your day with the most significant and difficult task. For me that is a great habit to mitigate procrastination.
I also had an ex-military mentor who said that "decision is better than indecision", I.e. a decision when it's needed is better than no decision at all - even if it isn't the best one.
Again, for me - I always like to look at different options, make a decision on what's needed and go for it without regrets or looking back - we really need to move on and take responsibility, navigating new challenges as they come.
As for failure - I am always inspired by Thomas A. Edison's famous quote, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work,".
Failure is a natural part of the learning process, without it, you won't learn - simple as that. We shouldn't shy away from new challenges or approaches from fear of failure. Learning from your mistakes is part of the adventure, it's all about moving on and becoming stronger.
In the facility engineering and project delivery game, for me the most interesting part of the project is watching the end user use the facility you've delivered. This is where the true learning comes in - their feedback, combined with noting opportunities for improvement - is what will make the next facility, and the ones after it - even better.
Without that iterative process, it's like peddling a bicycle without it going anywhere."
