Biyat's stance on how to maintain a 'Healthy Mind, Healthy Body'

Biyat Energy & Environment Ltd's founder and Environmental Project Manager Luay Zayed shares some thoughts on maintaining a 'Healthy Mind, Healthy Body' work balance.

"In my opinion, health is everything - and we can easily lose sight of that until we lose it. For those blessed with good health - maintain it, look after yourself and be moderate in whatever you do.

It's tempting to work late to fit more in. Work smart and prioritise what can and can't wait.

Don't let go of your hobbies. Do some quick stretching before you leave to work, incorporate exercise into your workday (always inspired by a taxi driver I saw with a skipping rope between jobs and the security manager leading a group pushup race before a meeting), take your annual leave and be sure to recharge over the weekend. Connect with family, eat healthy, tuck your kids in at night and read them a book, etc.

One of the best initiatives I've come across is the introduction of an office 'quiet room'. It's important to take some 'me' time during the day to reflect on both work and personal matters - even if it's a quick walk around the office building to get some fresh air.

Also, in large offices, there are lots of birthdays to celebrate - instead of bringing in yummies - think healthy - decorative fruit baskets are a good alternative.

Another fantastic initiative is 'corporate volunteering'. I was lucky enough to volunteer at a local canal restoration trust in the Midlands with JLR. We spent a day or two every month lending a hand to restore pathways, fences, walls, etc under the watchful eye of retired construction experts.

Forget the gym - heaving a laden wheelbarrow all day and erecting fence posts is enough to make you ache for a whole week! Plus you get to bond with team-mates on a personal level (very important)...and learn hands-on construction!
